Thanks to the Lyra Society and my teacher, Ms. Steiner, I would have never imagined that I would be able to play an instrument as grand as the harp. It has taught me discipline, structure, love, grit and a thousand more qualities that I could go on and on about. Because of the harp I sit straighter and I walk with purpose. No matter what school I attend or what job I may have, I will always be able to say that I am a Harpist.”

I am fortunate to count the Lyra staff members among the role models in my life, as I strive to emulate their consistent kindness, dedication, and grace. These people have made it possible for me to say that I am a harpist. They have also contributed significantly to my ability to say that I am a person of good character, that I am perseverant in seeking excellence, and that I can set high goals for myself and accomplish them.

The Glissando program has not only taught me how to operate the harp but it has taught me patience, determination, how to adapt to new situations, resilience, discipline, and teamwork. The Glissando program has inspired me, it has inspired me to play more, play new pieces, learn new techniques and skills. The Glissando program has provided me with an instrument that has provided me with peace and serenity.

Over the years, I have learned that the Lyra Society is so much more than a “program that teaches harp.” Never in my career have I worked with an outside organization that is so dedicated to education. The Lyra educators are always there for our students, they never say no, even if it is inconvenient for them.

The Lyra Society provides more than just lessons. They organize college workshops (regardless of the students’ intended majors), they provide performance opportunities, they find scholarships, they host summer camps, and they arrange for the students to hear and interact with world class artists. Perhaps most importantly, they have welcomed the students into the tight-knit community of harpists.

Thanks to the Lyra Society for all that you do for our students. You are changing lives.

“I have quietly supported this organization since 2015. I have watched several The Lyra Society students come through the program; the progress in playing, and more importantly the development of poise and confidence from these students is nothing short of amazing. It is a remarkable organization, doing phenomenal work as it continues to deliver for 15 and more years. The video is truly remarkable story that should be known.”
